¿Dónde me Trajiste?

Donde Me Trajiste Closed Door Restaurant in Palermo, Buenos Aires, Argentina

We started last thursday night confused and uncomfortable and ended it singing Elvis with the owners, the band and special guest musician, Diego Aloras. The place was a traditional Argentine home with open air walkways and 7 tables scattered throughout 3 rooms. The band was two guys with guitars who invited a guest musician in every week. The staff was a guy and girl who lived in the apartment upstairs who opened the ‘restaurant’ Wednesdays and Thursdays. The food was their choice. You will never find this place in any tourist books.

“¿Dónde me Trajiste?” was the name of the ‘restaurant’ and it literally means “Where did you take me?”

I wanted this post to be romantic, poetic, artistic and mysterious. Everything this hidden gem was and more. For that, I did the best thing I knew how and asked a girl to do it! Below, my roommate Mariangela explains our night out at my new favorite spot…

9:35 pm, walking through the middle of nowhere, to a place or a non- place. A thousand questions but no answers. A thousand thoughts and a unique response: the unexpected. A dark street, a hidden door, a mystic environment, a cat waiting for his next catch, a broken piano, and a living room full of old  paintings andrecords all over the floor announcing the unknown. No words were needed, for nothing to be said. There we were, the place and us, in an unique space never experienced before.

The language of the soul aroused with the first beats of the music. Moved by the unexpected rhythm of the mysterious singers, between candles, wine, pasta and the soft melody of an old Elvis Presley song “Love Me Tender”. It was a little bit of all places in one place, a piece of us in there.  this was it. suddenly the end was announcing his course. the evening became morning, the wine was over, the cat was sleeping, the guitar was no longer playing, the people were no longer there. Just us. Trying to find the answer to a question that lead us into this unexpected and magical night: Donde me Trajiste… Where did you bring me?

If you live in Buenos Aires (or are visiting) this is a place you have to visit. If not, cook a big meal for a bunch of friends and/or family, play some different music and let the night’s company get you lost in the moment.
