Late Nights & Nice Tights

Party in San Telmo, Buenos Aires

This weekend I got to check out a few new spots around Buenos Aires and went to my first Argentine House Party in San Telmo (pictured above).

Thursday, I went to this new bar called DUIDUI in Palermo Hollywood… which was a great time (despite it’s uncomfortable name). It was cool because there was no sign outside and you had to ring the bell to get in. Also, when we left, they had to unlock the door to let us out. Although it sounds kinda shaddy it was a really nice, upscale spot. It was laid back with a big mix of nationalities and a young, cool staff. A friend and I ended up trying out our spanish with a few Argentine girls. We came to find out they drive 45 minutes into the city every weekend to go out. Dios Mio! The conversation was a bit of a push but when in doubt, go with the sure thing… “So, do you girls like facebook?”

Friday night, Nate from Chicago, a girl from Bankok, a guy from Brazil and I went to San Telmo to check out a house party that Nate had been invited to by a girl from Manchester. I know, it was like a drunk UN meeting.

Despite almost getting jumped on our way there by a gang of stick wheeling teenagers we managed to find her giant old warehouse-turned-apartment. However, I wasn’t ready for what we walked into. Side note: San Telmo is a very bohemian area in Buenos Aires. It’s really cool and raw. When we got there, there was like 100 people laying around this huge living room watching an ‘artistic‘ film. Basically it was a 2 hour weird-blurred-image slideshow narrated by a group of guys playing random instruments. If I was on drugs, I’d probably have seen what everyone else was so captivated by. When the movie was over, everyone cleared the living room of matresses and blankets and started dancing! It turned out to be a great night with a very diverse group of people and artists from all over the world.

First Family in Buenos Aires, Argentina

After a rough Saturday morning Basketball session, Saturday night was Pizza Party Part II at Casa De Eliana’s. As usual it didn’t disappoint. This time was even more interesting (and entertaining) because there were a few people who didn’t speak a bit of English and some who didn’t speak a lick of Spanish. Despite a few awkward silences and frequent translations, we managed to eat a ton of pizza and empanadas and have a great time. Also, the more wine I drank the better my spanish got (although other people didn’t seem to think so).

I know, very calm weekends so far… I think I’ll try to get into some more trouble next weekend.

T2t Words of Wisdom #102: Never turn down a meal with friends & never turn down an invitation to go out with new people.

T2t Words of Wisdom #103: Drink while you practice your spanish, you’re not as hesitant.
