Delhi: The Jewel of India

Some of the most interesting, colourful and awe inspiring religious festivals in the world are held annually in Delhi. Diwali, or the Festival of Lights, is a festival that is celebrated by both Jains and Hindus from mid-October through mid-November and is one of the most important religious festivals of the year. Several others including Mahavir Jayanti, Durga Puja, Holi, Guru Nanak’s Birthday, Lohri, Chhath, Maha Shivaratri, Eid ul-Fitr, Krishna Janmastami, Moharram and Buddha Jayanti are celebrated at other points throughout the year making it easy to plan a vacation to see one of these spectacular sights.

Besides having a vast amount of historical sites to explore and wonderful religious festivals to attend, Delhi is also a bustling metropolis that offers all of the modern attractions that you would expect from such a large city.

There are innumerable amounts of restaurants and street vendors that offer some of the best traditional food in the country. If Indian food is not your taste, other Asian cuisine is readily available as well are some of the most established western fast food chains. No matter what kind of food you prefer, there is something that you will enjoy in Delhi.

Shopping is another staple of any visit to Delhi. There are many modern shops that can fulfil any need that you may have, though the bazaars and open area markets of the Old City are something that you should be sure not to miss.

  1. Explained Delhi very well in simple words. I think it is Akshardham Temple. I visited once during my India tour and this temple is really amazing. It’s architecture and the fountain show was great. I was wonder how they managed.
