Beijing is the capital of China and the heart of the nation’s culture. It is a fast changing and modern city but full of history and culture. Xian or Changan is another historical city as well as the biggest city in North West China. As well as the Banpo Museum, the Forest of Stone and Shaanxi Provincial Museum, the Terra-cotta Army is a must see. The Terra-cotta army was hidden underground for more than 2000 years. It was discovered in 1974, by farmers digging a well and it is now a world heritage site. It represents the army that triumphed over all other Chinese armies and who were the decisive factor in forming a united China.
Shanghai in central east China is the largest metropolitan area in the country and faces the East China Sea. It’s divided into two sections; Pudong which is the new development zone and Puxi which is the old area. Again, there is enough to keep you entertained for days including the Shanghai Jade Buddha Temple, the Shanghai Xin Tian Di, the Shanghai Oriental Pearl TV Tower and the Shanghai Yuyuan Garden, the Bund which is one of the most recognizable architectural symbols of Shanghai is a must. It looks out on the river and is spectacular. The Oriental Pearl Tower also lines the river, with the neon lights indicating the offices of top world brands and European architecture surrounding them. This makes Shanghai the perfect place to enjoy credit card rewards, so make sure you bring your card along on your trip.
The Yangtze River is the longest river in one country. It passes by some breath-taking scenery. Cruises are a must for those yearning for some romance and tranquillity with a voyage through the mountains and the cities from the west to the east. The Li River is not as long but also fabulous. The 83km section between Guilin and Yangshuo is arguably the most beautiful part of China. The landscape holds pretty hills, steep cliffs, curious caves and quaint farming villages.
