The island of Lanzarote, which sits off the west coast of Africa and makes up one seventh of the cluster of volcanic islands known as the Canaries, has long been a favourite destination for fortnightly tourists as well as seasoned travellers. Once you have filled in your application and paid a 15 euro charge to get your fishing license, you will be free to fish as much as you like. The lighthouse in Playa Blanca is a popular place to fish, as are areas in Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen. Cherne, Dorado, Vieja and Sardina are all fish that can be caught and eaten, so whatever you catch is yours later that night!
Lazy Afternoon Relaxing
Life can really run you down at times, which is why from time to time it is nice to just sit in the midday sun, slap on the sunscreen and do absolutely nothing. And for total relaxation, where better than a lovely golden sandy beach? As a rule, sea temperatures never fall below 16 degrees Celsius in Lanzarote, even in winter, so no matter the month of year it will be perfect toe dipping weather. Lanzarote has 60 beaches, many packed with tourists on budget holidays, many cove like and all but deserted. Those in the north of island are great for water sports – so if you want to get up and get your heart rate going on a jet ski you can.

Whilst Lanzarote does not enjoy the reputation as a late night haven like that of neighbouring Tenerife, it still has some fantastic restaurants and bars which keep visitors entertained throughout the evenings. Lanzarote restaurants can and do serve up international dishes from all over the world, with the local cuisine heavily influenced, unsurprisingly, by Spanish flavours. Salted fish in a Mojo sauce is a particular island favourite so get stuck in! Wine making has been in existence on Lanzarote since the 15th century so you’ll certainly have a wide variety to choose from – Lanzarote Malvasia is a favourite white and a perfect companion to fish dishes.
