When it comes to your holidays, you need to make sure you choose the right place for you. Taking the time to look further afield than the usual holiday destinations will throw up some great surprises. Eastern Europe has some of the best locations to offer and they are not tracked out by the vast majority of tourists. Three great locations that you should check out are Montenegro, Bulgaria and Greece. You might have previously looked at these locations, but dismissed them, however a little further investigation, could turn up your perfect holiday.

Montenegro is one of the up and coming tourist destinations in Eastern Europe and has some amazing locations to visit. The port town of Porto Montenegro is a former industrial harbour on the Bay of Kotor. Recently, Porto Montenegro has received a vast facelift, making it the Saint Tropez of the region. The port town has a vibrant waterfront, exclusive shopping district, active water-sports community and even an outstanding rugby team to support.

Aside from the port, Montenegro has a vast wealth of natural attractions to keep you entertained. A visit to the Durmitor National Park is a master class in the unspoilt and untouched world. Whilst a trip to Sveti Stefan, will show you the most glamorous side of the country, allowing you to lodge in the same locations as Queen Elizabeth II.

Whilst Bulgaria might seem a small country in Europe, it is responsible for over 40,000 registered historic sites. These ensure that the country stays firmly on the tourist trail. Sofia city is a great place to start a tour and the National Palace of Culture is a must see; providing an opportunity to experience the physical and artistic history of the country.

The Balkan Mountains house a large skiing industry, which is starting to rival some more major resorts in France and Austria. The relatively low price of a lift pass, accommodation and food is a huge draw for a new generation of skiers and snowboarders who are more interested in what the mountains have to offer than the over-hyped reputation.

Greece has been a long standing staple for tourists, visiting the historic architecture of the Ancient Greeks through to the clubbing islands. Heading straight to Athens, will allow you to experience the Acropolis, make sure you take the time to really take in all of what the Acropolis has to offer.

If you head over to Santorini, you will find some the best wine in the world. The island is nickname “the wine island” and within 5 minutes of being here, you will see why.

Taking in some of these sights, means you do not have to worry about choosing the wrong option for your holiday. Any of these destinations will give you something special and unique to take back from your holiday.
